General Care Discussion :: Growing correctly?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ever since that scare a few days back I have wondered if Crush was growing fast enough. He is 2.7" and we have had him for ten months. He goes through phases where one month he will grow a little then the next month he will have these spurts.

I had a really good dry shot of him but then he saw me and jumped down from his basking area. Lately he has become very nippy so taking the pictures didn't last long.

That is a nice looking turtle. You may want to feed this turtle every other day and cut back on the food a little. Usually the jagged edges is an indication that you may be over feeding him. m.

The edges are his baby scutes that are falling off. The ones at the top where they have fallen off do not have the edge. If you look closely in the last one you can see the baby scutes.

Hmm...but the distance between schutes isn't wide. If a turtle's being overfed,
the distance will be wider, I guess. Crush looks fine to me.

I'm guessing VanishingReality is shooting for the 4" mark at 1 year old. Perhaps
Crush had a bad start (at the store?) and that caused the slower growth? I say
as long as Crush is healthy, there's nothing to worry about :)

Or, perhaps I'm wrong...

I think he looks good, and if he's eating well, active and overall growth is steady, his size isn't a concern. Growth spurts happen with hatchlings. :)

Well,my turtles scutes at the end are jagged also.Does that mean I'm overfeeding them?I feed them 3 times a day.1 pellet each time.I feed them ReptoMin.(normal size)They're about 2".I don't know how old they are but I've had them for about 6 months. So,am I overfeeding them?

He was a little less then an inch when we got him. And he was the only turt left because his ears were orange and they said that made him stupid. Today we woke up and he was organizing his rocks into house shapes so whoever said that is wrong.

Our pets are like our children and we were just a little worried since was wasn't growing as fast as some turts on here. If he is healthy then we will keep doing what we are doing.

Turtlelover- You are not over feeding them if that amount fits in their heads.
