Habitat - Indoor :: Algae eating fish

My tank has gotten a lot of green algae. What kind of fish would help with it? I've done a search and came up with Plecos and I saw chinese algea eaters at the store but I read that they can become aggresive. Is there any other fish that eat algea. I'm not really interested in getting snails. Thanks!

Pleco's and Chinese Algae would be the way to go but the they often are eaten if the turtle is big enough. I'm sure there are other fish that eat algae just have to find them. sorry if this doesnt answer your question

I agree with Lantic, but be forewarned - I've had several of both and all ended up dead before they got any substantial work done on that algae lol

even if they are bigger than the turtle they arent safe from being eaten. i caught my turtle with the tail of a pleco in his mouth just swimming around with it. and i didnt even notice any algae being eaten.

Right now my turtles are hatchlings and are not eating fish yet. I had 5 rosies, but they all died during a change except one. So I think it's worth a try. Which fish would you prefer? I'm not sure which to get. Thanks!

Rosie Barbs are known to eat algea.. Here's a website that has a list of species that will eat algae

Plecos are a plated fish. I had plecos and Pickle ate them. I was lucky and she didn't have any problems, but another member once had a plate from a pleco become lodged in the turtles mouth! Recently, my goldfish tried to eat an otocat (another plated fish) and it got stuck it his mouth! It had these sharp barbs that opened up and got caught like a fish hook. I don't know how, but the goldfish eventually spit it out. It could have been a lot worse. After that, I wouldn't use any plated fish in the tank with any of my pets that might try to eat them, just to be on the safe side.
