I got my baby turtle in sept. 2008, so about 10 mnths ago.
For the past 4 days I have noticed he has been Basking WAY longer then he use to. Is that normal?
Thanks for any answers!

Check the basking area temp---it should be about 10 degrees warmer than the water.

Well, maybe the water temp. is too cool, and it's warmer basking. Maybe you should get a heater, so he won't bask too long, and will feel warm and comfy in the water too!

I live in northern Cali, I have a heater in the Tank and the water stays at about 77 degrees, which is what I was told to keep it at. How can I check the Basking area's temp?

fan-ever The water temp. should be around 74 to 77 degrees and the basking temp. (with uvb) should be around 90 to 91 degrees. They like the difference. If your temps are correct turtles usually get what they need. Make sure they have the uvb lighting and plenty of calcium they should be ok. m.

fandjforever, place a thermometer on the spot where your turtle basks and leave it there for about 20 minutes. Then check it. You'll get a more accurate reading if you place the thermometer on an object that's about the height of your turtle.
