Habitat - Indoor :: 55 gall tanks

Thinking I might have a good deal coming my way. I'm going tomorrow to look at 2-55 gallon tanks with stands and filtera for $250.
Let's hope they are in good shape.

A quick tip: Bring a measuring tape and maybe a calculator with you. Make sure the tanks are actually 55 gallons.
To find out # gallons:
(length x width x height (in inches)) / 231

And make sure it's not a terrarium, those are tanks that are not built strong enough to hold water. If it's a terrarium, there should be a sticker on the bottom that labels it as such.

Even if it's an aquarium, make sure they can hold water.

So I purchased the 2 tanks. They appear to be older but in good shape. Now I've started the cleaning process.
Dang when did it get to where people don't bother to clean things they want to sell? I've have shovelled out nearlly 200 lbs of gravel.
Really this guy wasted tons of space with the amount of gravel he had in them. Now comes the process of getting all the crusty scum off.
He has 2 filters with it. One being a magna canister. Which I know nothing about and is in bad need of a cleaning.
And the other is a wisper normal fish filter. Whew so I have my work cut out for me but it was a good deal. So off I go to finish. I'll update on how it goes.

Have cleaning lol. That actually is sad that he didnt clean it out to sell but if you say it was a good deal then he knew he would sell it anyway and didnt care.

Tam - When looking at the filters make sure they will pump at least five times the water volume that you will have in the tank. I use 350 gph on my 55's and they do fine. The filters you bought may have been for fish and may not be big enough. Turtles need a lot of water exchange. m.
