Feeding and Nutrition :: Bloodworms

I went to the store this morning to buy some worms for Baxter to try. The lady suggested blood worms since they were smaller, and I wouldn't have to break them up so much for him to eat....are they safe for the little guy?

Secondly, he seems to "miss" his food alot...is this normal? I put a piece of a bloodworm in tank and he took interest right away...but he kept striking it and missing! Eventually the worm went inbetween some rocks and then baxter tried digging his way down to get it, but the rocks are too big for him to move...

Lastly, He lives with 4 very small fish and he never pays attention to them....does this mean he'll never eat fish or chase them? Thanks in advance!

Blood worms aren't very nutrious. Did they have mini meal worms? My wk old less than an inch turt does fine with them without breaking them up.

Yes they did have meal worms....I'll try those today....

Does your little guy have problems with "missing" the food when he bits sometimes?? I was wondering if that was normal...

Yep sometimes has to try a few times.

Mealworms are pretty much in the same catagory as bloodworms---little nutrition. Plus they really have a bad Ca/phos ratio and their skins can be very hard to digest.

I rarely buy mealworms. I do give bloodworms occasionally---the fortified ones that are in frozen cubes.
