But you will quickly need a much larger tank, and make sure there is no gravel. Also be sure to have a heat and UVB bulb and a basking area where they can dry off completely. I would post a picture if possible and you should read up on the info on the main site.

Then, a few days later, I got whatever cash I had, and bought a 10 gallon, with a substrate and a big rock for a ramp and a small tunnel for privacy. I couldn't afford plants so the tunnel had to do until I could upgrade better.
Just for the record, it took me about several months to save up some money to get more stuff. That time of year was awful, so many lousy paychecks because of the holidays. In any case, my turtles did fine for that amount of time. No health problems.
If you are really worried about tank temperatures, and them getting proper UV rays, you can use a regular house bulb for heat, preferably 75 watts. (No curly bulbs, just a regular round bulb). For UV, you can bring them outside in an open box or container with no water. If you are using a box, you can just push down one of the flaps for shade, so they can get out of the sun when they want to. They can stay out of water for days at a time, so a couple of hours of UV will be fine. Make sure you supervise them at all times.
You can start with a 20 gallon tank for now, until you get the money to upgrade. www.glasscages.com sells tanks really cheap, but their shipping methods are limited and a little confusing. (Someone from the site got a huge attitude with me for asking shipping questions, so, be on guard for that). www.lllreptile.com sells one type of turtle tank, approximately 20 gallons, and I can't remember the price exactly. You can get an acrylic tank, rather than a glass tank, since acrylic is cheaper.
