thats territorial, if the biting is excessive, and doesnt stop, seperate them. Yes it is a stage of the mating dance, but it is also a territorial thing, how big is the tank? How old are they? How often do they bite?

20 gallons? thats way to small, it should be at least an 80.... craigslist.org

My turtles used to nip and shaking at eachother in the 10 gallon, but i got a $50 (50 gallon) aquarium from craigslist, and that has gone down tremendously, it must be territorial, its probably isnt mating.

Are any of them male? You may need to keep them permanently separated, not to mention separate tanks (40 gallons now - 90 gallons each if they are adult males).
