Welcome. :) What kind of set-up do you have for "Charlie?" Not a bad name for a turt, BTW, male or female. (You won't be able to tell until the shell length is about 4 inches.)

Charlie..yup! I decided to call him Charlie though I feel like I should add "Sneaky" in front of it! He's very sneaky! Figures that he'd be! lol

I had him in a tank which was too small..well, too short. He escaped a couple of times and came looking for company. Uhhhh! He's a social turtle! I changed it today and got him a bigger and taller tank. I forgot to get him a background though so since it's a clear glass aquarium, he doesn't like being in there.....I think it's too bright and public for him. I solved that problem by blocking the front and now he's sleeping peacefully.

Charlie's not a baby, he's maybe 5 or 6 inches long, I haven't measured him yet but he's a big guy(I went thinking I'd adopt a baby but he was just too cute to leave behind!)

Oh--he escaped because I took the hood off but that was only because I hated seeing him so lonely in there.*I know, I know!*

Thanks for the warm welcome though! *hugs*

tturtles arent very social creatures, and their natural instinct is to escape to be free, he may seem social, but he's really only trying to leave.

Welcome. I have my aquarium covered on all sides most of the time. They really need privacy, especially to bask. Plus, there are potential injuries with escapes, so please make sure he can't get out. They can be determined climbers when they want to be.

Turtles may be more sociable as they become accustomed to their keepers, but their personalities vary. Sounds like you have a very curious turt there.

lol Thanks. I'm not taking the hood off the tank anymore, he's way too sneaky. I know he's trying to escape some of the time(saw him trying to hide behind the couch) but after he's done hiding, he comes to investigate/play with me. He's fascinated with the television and the Xmas tree. I might be mistaken but he seems to be used to me-->he lets me rub his head and neck for as long as I want. *probably realized that I'm the one who feeds him!*

Aww your turtle sounds so cute!
I got Bobbi from school and she got "use" to me as well.
I was the only one who would show the poor thing any attention, and he is social!
I think it's illegal to sell a turtle under 4"...It is here anyway.
Well.....welcome Misty, I'm Sarah, new as well....Which you already know! :)
Yay for social turtles...haha *all dumb* :)

lol Thanx for the welcome Sarah. Isn't this an awesome site??

I just wanted to say..u did an awesome thing, taking Bobbi and giving her a home. *hugz...and applause* Your turtle sounds pretty cute too! I'm so happy she's doing better now! I finally got some pics of Charlie but he stayed in his shell while I was taking them, everytime I lowered the cam, he came out. lol Like I said, "sneaky!" It is illegal to sell them under that size..I wonder if it's also illegal to adopt them out under that size too..hmmmm. Yay for social turts!

lol U deserve it! Yeah, some of my friends said "eeeeuw, turtles are ugly" but when they saw Charlie, they changed their mind. It's weird how cute they are..u'd think they would be ugly but they're not. Have u tried to look ur turt in the eye?? Can u hold her stare?? lol

Actually, his full name is Sneaky Charlie but I just call him Charlie, except for when he's actually being sneaky. I got a pic of him last night but he was all scrunched up....I'll add it anywayz tho.

Image

Yeah, I took him out of the tank, when he was dry and let him exercise a bit, then took a few pics. It was kinda dark so you can't see him properly..lol Sorry!
