I read a couple of things that said this is completely normal however I just read this:
"Their skin comes off in small and fine quantities and is difficult to see them actually shedding. If you do see your turtle shedding with large clumps or strands of hair-like skin hanging from them, then this is called excessive shedding. Most times when a turtle sheds excessively, it is a sign of over-feeding, water temperatures being too warm, poor water quality, a skin condition, or other infection in the body."
He/she IS shedding larger clumps on his neck, legs & bottom. It is NOT difficult to see & this is about the 2nd or 3rd day & seems to not be getting worse but not stopping either!!??
The water temp is just below 80 (approx 78 ) we clean his tank regularly & have a sub filter in there too. The only thing that it may be is over feeding??!! We used to feed him a couple times a day bc we thought he wasn’t eating but now since he/she is eating we feed him once a day with pellets, green leaf lettuce every other day & the cuttlebone stays in there all the time. We did get him crickets today & she had one but it started before today so I don’t know what’s going on!!
I’m not sure that this is any help but I have been noticing his shell is big & strong & almost looks like his body is too small for his shell.. I was going to post something else & ask if there is such a thing as “awkward turtle stage” bc of it.. But that part could be just in my head as my hubby doesn’t see it. It does look very strong & healthy though.
