General Care Discussion :: Lots of aggressive behavior!!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:25 am   Lots of aggressive behavior!!

my turtles now 4 months old are showing signs of being aggressive. The smaller one has taken bites out the bigger ones leg, neck and even shell. The bigger one also bit him in the leg. At this time i can not afford to separate them.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Did you look into buying a plastic container like from walmart or somthing. It wont set you back in price. You need to seperate them because there is no way to change there behavior

If you can't separate them, you'll have to find a new home for one of them. I had to do that when my boxies started fighting.. wasn't easy.. I had the money, but not the space needed. If you keep them together you'll risk losing one or both to injuries.

Good luck :-(

how about bigger tank?? i have a 900 gal indoor koi pond. The problem is the koi are about 10 times bigger then the turtle and the pond is more "deep" than "long"

Fres-p.46 -- Welcome to the world of slider turtles. Sometimes they fight right away, some times it takes a while and sometimes they get along. You have no choice except to separate them or let them fight if out. If they have started this behavior they will not change. Good Luck!

If the agressive behavior occurs during feeding time, feed them separately---either take one out of the tank and feed the one in the tank and switch, or get a separate feeding container for one of them (the one that's more aggressive). If the aggression occurs at other times, that's another matter...

^Thanks everyone

marrisa^ i already began to feed them separate and thank god the aggression has stop'd so i guess they were just being competitive during feeding time...
