General Care Discussion :: Algae Eating Fish

Tried to put a Pleco in my turtle tank becuase they are faster then my turtle and so I thought they would live. (I have four goldfish in there that have been alive for months because he can't catch them). He got the pleco in 20 minutes because its got its face on the wall and back to my turtle when hes attacking.

Does anybody know of an algae eater thats >10 inches, fast and wont get eaten!!!

I use regular catfish i catch at the pond.They seem to be the only ones that survive and do a great job at keeping the bottom clean.
In the past i tried cory catfish, plecos, chinese algae eaters, and they all disappeared on the long run.

lol i've just purchased two baby algae fishes to put in with my RES. So far they have survived 3 days although my RES has attempted to eat them... Since then they have been hiding behind the filter

One has grown to be over 10" and the other is about 6".They were small when i caught them this summer.

I just recently put a few snails in my tank. They are cheap and do a descent job of keeping the crud of the tank. Whenever they get eaten I will just go buy a couple more.
