General Care Discussion :: new red ear slider

i just got a red ear slider, its only a few months old i believe very tiny... i have all necessary habitat equip but my turtle doesnt seem to want to get on his log and bask in the heat.. should i worry after so long??

My turtles did this for a while too. It is probably just because it is in a new Tank and isint too sure about getting all the way out of the water yet. And sometimes my turtles even sleep in the water and just hold on to there dock, I think they just like the warm water better then the lights sometimes.

yaeh i seen that he is holding on the the dock or sometimes just poking his head out of the water lloking around... so i hope he will be just fine with time

Also make sure that it's very easy to climb... what kind do you have?

Mine did the same thing when I first got her. After a few days she finally figured out that she could crawl all of the way up out of the water. Have you noticed and puddles or spots on his basking area at all? Maybe he just crawls up when you aren't around.

josh48 - Make it easy for him to get on the basking area and make sure you have the temp on the basking area at 90 to 91 degrees with uvb lighting. If it is that small the water temp should be aroung 79 to 80 degrees, a little higher when it gets larger.
