My turtle has been very hyper lately. Is this normal? Usually he is slow and cautious. Now, he runs fast, and swims fast. I think he is somehow scared? I don't know. Any help?

Is it a male? If it's a female then she could be having eggs. Is he usually like that when you come and stay or does he become calm again when you leave. Try hiding in a place where he can't see you and observe him. If he's calm again then he could be just begging for food.

He is a male about 4 months. He usually is calm in the water, but once I take him out, he runs fast! lol

hes 4 months old? usually its very tough to tell the age of a turtle untill there yearlings or so.

I ment to put "tell the gender of a turtle till there yearlings" and dont alwasy believe the people that you get them from. they could be lieing.

I doubt they'd have any reason to lie about it. They are a great respectable people.

Turtles feel safe and secure in the water - when you take them out, they're often very wary and run for cover, or look for water to get into because in the wild when they're out of the water, they're exposed to predators.

It's not abouy lieing so much as it is they can't really tell 100% until it's about 4 in long. Theoretically they could've controlled the incubation temperatures, but IDK if breeders really go to that extent to produce specific genders of turtle. Even then, I still wouldn't be 100% sold that its gender was known until it reached sexual maturity and displayed either male or female characteristics.

So yeah, there's a good chance it's a male if the guy says it is, but you may not be able to be 100% sure for a few years.
