Ok,I redecorated my aquarium.I bought a heat lamp with UVA rays,and a conditioner,and I filled it up with water,Vien seems happy,and she finally started basking.

Thanks.I also found a 100 watt heater on Amazon.Can you just install it for 75 deegrees.I looked at Petsmart,and they didn't have filters,so here tell me if this one is good.

Hi Vieniebebe. Did you already buy the Heater already? I recommend using a shatterproof one for turtles. As turtles get older, their shell behinds to harden more and it can crack the glass. I thought by buying a cheaper one would save money but after 2 weeks of use, it crack and I wind up spending more money to buy replace one. Survivor was always constantly battling his image (background created image) that he cracked the heater. I had to finally take off the background because he wouldn't get adjusted to it after 3 weeks. I'm not sure but most thermometers have a knob to configurate the temperature. However, not many of them carrying a good thermometer to accurately read the actual temperature. An advice, which heaters mention in the manual, is that you should put the heater in the tank for about 15mins so it can read the temperature and then plug it in. It is also recommend to do the same when you want to take the heater out. If you take the non-shatterproof heater out before it cools down, many times the glass cracks. As for a filter, you mention that Petsmart didn't sell them? I bought most of my setup from Petsmart for my 29G setup and they basically had everything I needed. The price wasn't really the best but they carry most items. If you are planning to get an Aquaclear, you might need to buy an extension tube since your water level isn't really that high. Of course, I understand that it can get only so high because of the basking area. And lastly, where is the UVB light?

I live in New Mexico,so they have a crappy petsmart here.So they didn't have filters the last time I was there.I don't have to worry about Vien breaking the glass right now,since she's only a hatchling,so I will get a temporary heater,and then when i have more money,i'll buy a good 1.No,I don't have a UVB light.Again they didn't have any at petsmart,but I got a UVA light,and the lady that works there said,that there isn't much of a difference,and Vien won't stop baking now.Plus I got this conditioner that gets rid of slime,shedding,removes chlorine,chlorophine,smell,and has calcium in it(and cost more than my aquarium)Well,we'll see what it does,and if it doesn't help,then I'll have to buy some medicine.

There's a major difference between a UVA and UVB light.. one emits UVB rays (artificial sunlight where they get Vit D) and UVA emits heat. You may want to read up on lights here..

She's fine.I don't have $50 for UVB light,and UVA can harden the shell as much as UVB can.and i think I spent enough money on Vien.If you send me $100 then I'll buy UVB and a heater.But I think that spending 4%0 on a bulb that will stop working in 6 months is silly.Where I come from,people have turtles,never worry about lights,heaters,filters or basking areas,and they're turtles are just fine.I think I bought Calciumize,it was like $8,it's supposed to harden the shell,if not then i'll buy that medicine.

Well I'm sorry but you are wrong on the UVA will do for the shell what a UVB would.. And you can get a UVB bulb for $20 ..

Did you happen to read the information I showed you in my last post, because if you did, you'd see the difference between UVB and UVA. Btw, there really is no need for a nasty attitude. I was trying to impart information to you. You are free to choose to do whatever you wish. Not my turtle, not my responsibility.

It's ok, we all have bad days. I see you live in New Mexico so you may not need a UVB if you take the turtle outside for a bit each week. So you really can save on UVB.. some of us, like myself aren't so fortunate. It's currently snowing in Pennsylvania.

You don't really need to spend $40 on a UVB light. The average cost I will say is about $25 or cheaper. The ones you are probably talking about are the UVA/UVB combos. You might buy Cuttlebone or Calcium power but without an UVB light, your turtle won't properly metabolize any of that. I must say I strongly disagree with you when you said that the people who don't have all the requirements have healthy turtles. How can you be so sure? I use to treat my turtle the same way to be honest but not really intentionally. I don't want to get into a long story but my 12+ years old Survivor was basically neglected most of his life. But when I finally decided to take more of an active role, I really did see a lot of diffence in his shell, behavior, and personality. However, I know for a fact that all those years of neglect will have its effect sooner or later. I mean you can't take the necessities of a human for 12 years or more and expect that person to grow up healthy as someone who had it all.

For now, I recommend you take your turtle outside to get direct sunlight (great source of UVB rays). But you must watch him carefully unless you have something setup that provides protection and prevention. The reason why I suggested a bit more expensive heater was because it'll most likely save you the money in the long run. There's really no point in upgrading after upgrading. It'll only cost you in the long run. It might seem like there's a lot of money upfront but it's well worth it. I'm sure you probably know this by now but raising a turtle or turtles is quite expensive. But what kind of animal isn't? As for a UVA requirement, just use a standard light bulb that can heat your basking area to high 80s and lower 90s. There's no need to buy those expensive UVA lights like the one I purchase not long ago from Zoo-Med. It actually stop working in less than 3 weeks and I was shot $7. It did provide excellent heat though (really hot actually). I still didn't RMA it and I probably don't plan to.

Yea turtles are great.But c'mon gimme a break,my weekly allowence is $3,and i'll buy that stuff as soon as possible.What's the temperature to take her outside?Do I need a lamp with me or something?
