General Care Discussion :: Turtle eggs, help.

My turtle has been digging everywhere for about two weeks now. She's been increasingly restless and when my mom felt the soft spot where she tucks her legs in, she told me my turtle had eggs.

Here's the thing, I've been taking her to the park everyday for 3-4 hours. She would dig a nest to lay them in, then walks away. I don't see why she hasn't laid them yet, I have been keeping my distance and have no bothered her when she is looking for a place to dig.

I can't afford another tank with a heating lamp right now, so I settle for taking her outside. The weather has been nice so far, so that's not an issue. Yet it's been days and she hasn't laid them yet.

I'm kind of worried, since I've heard a turtle can get an infection of they don't lay their eggs right away..

Is there a way she can finally lay her eggs? Any tips? I would take her further into the park, but I've seen hawks around there and I fear she'll be food.

It's possible eggs that have been held in too long can calcify and rupture. Is this her first clutch?

It's good that she's trying to lay them, has she covered up any of those nests? If not and you are sure she's not laying them, then a visit to the vet may be in order. They can examine her and perhaps give you a better idea what's going on. They can also administer oxytocin, which might help induce egg laying.

Yeah, it's her first.

No, she's never dug up a hole. However, I have two red-eared sliders and the other one is really sick. I just came back from the vet and blew all of my money on her.

Strangely enough, she's back to normal. She's eating a huge amount of food again and has stopped her restless behavior. I haven't seen her lay her eggs, so I'm fairly worried that they will rupture.

Keep an eye on it. When I couldn't get my turtle to lay eggs, she would (fortunately) lay them in the water.

hi, does anyone of you know why my red ear slider only laid 1 egg into the soil? she's about 9 years old now.

And I think I accidently fliped the egg while digging the soil, so the chances for the egg to survive is low?

Do you also have a male turtle with her?

Yes. we used not to care about them until recently we shifted them into a big tank, so the female turtle's shell is kinda flat as compared to others full grown turtles.

I'm wondering is it due to the reason that she was not under appropriate care last time.

oh by the way, I'm sure they did mate.

sigh, its so unusual for turtle to lay only 1 egg.
