Ok Ranger has been making these weird whistle sounds when he pokes his head out of the water. They sound like the whistles that somtimes come out of a human nose when it is kinda clogged.
At first it was only a few times but now its happening almost everytime he pokes his head out of the water. He never dose it while he is basking its just when he pokes his head out of the water.
Please someone tell me what this is.

He dose not swim tilted or have bubbles comming out of his nose. The only time i see bubbles is when he slides off his basking rock and into the water then he makes 1-3 bubbles from his nose. His tempeature is usaully 80-82

Forgot to tell you my setup
I have a water filter cleaning his water 24/7 very good filter Marineland Hot Magnum canister filter. I have a turtle dock in there for him to use. A UVA heat bulb above it. I have a UVB rod but notthe fixture yet.
I have some rocks at the bottom of his tank there pretty big about nickle sizes so he can't eat them.
Im planning on getting him the UVB fixture but don't know where any suggestions?
Also im going to get him a heater soon

Would you say he's a little overweight? My female RES is a bit heavy and may occasionally make some light whistling sounds when she pokes her nose out of the water.

Follow the guidelines on this site about feeding -- especially pellets since the directions that come with those are usually to vague.

well my turtle loves red leaf lettuce. for protein I feed my turtle gut-loaded freeze dried crickets.. loves it. it takes a while to understand exactly how much to feed your turtle. I usually do a light sprinkle of pellets, and then maybe 2-3 crickets and a small piece of lettuce. on days when I don't feed her I might give her a treat of a grape or carrot.

look under the forum "Food and Nutrition" and also look at the food guidelines on the website.

Please reposnd quick i don't want whatever is wrong with him to get worse.
