Feeding and Nutrition :: This question again...

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I know I've posted this question a few times in the past but wanted to get more answers for it.

How can I get my turtle to eat vegetables? I've fed him every vegetable on the feeding list and he has not eaten any of them once at all. And I don't think it's very good for his health to just eat pellets. Turtle jello shots don't work either he never eats them. So how can I get him to eat vegetables?

Try and try until you succeed. There are also ways to entice feeding of vegetables like soaking them in tuna water. Or making sure water temp is ok, and a bunch of other stuff.. Only one of my two RES has eaten veggies, the other one has yet to partake of them.

I've tried the tuna soaking before didn't work either and just made the water smelly for a while. I've been trying for 2 months and I hate wasting money on vegetables that get thrown away all the time. His water temp is fine always around 76-78.

Luckily, or unluckily perhaps, my turtle is a glutton. After having been on a diet of pellets for her first year and a half I wised up, researched, and changed her diet that day. I stopped her pellets immediately and floated lettuce in her tank for half an hour each day until the 3rd day she gobbled it down. Now she will eat anything in my hand that comes into her tank.

Mine wouldn't touch veggies until the jello shots. I added a lot more tuna and tuna juice on the first batch so it's nice and stinky. He gobbled it up I think mainly because he thought it was tuna. He ate those and then I've gradually decreased the amount of tuna juice I put in them and now he eats them fine. He will still only nibble at veggies I put in the tank that aren't included in the jello shots. I always put lettuce in there and he'll eat it, but not as voraciously as he does protein items.

So maybe try making them really smelly for a while and then decrease?
