I just made about a cup and a half to 2 cups of veggie slurry in my blender. In it i'd say about 50 to 75% red leaf lettuce, some kale, some zucchini, about 6-10 baby carrots, about a square inch of sweet potato, 1/4 cup of blueberries, 3tsp of ground ReptoMin sticks, 1tsp of calcium bone.

i left the tuna out for now as I don't eat tuna myself so it would end up going to waste. So I upped the turtle pellet content to try and compensate.

If you don't have a food processor like me I stuffed a bunch of the veggies into the blender and then added a half cup of water. That let it blend a lot better. Later i kept that in mind when I was adding the gelatin powder. Basically I replaced the tuna juice with water while I was blending.

Now fyi it tastes exactly how it smells lol reminds me of being on a farm with a bunch of hay feeding animals

I'll let you know how my turtle likes.

Well I'm another yes to add to this thread. My version she loved. Best part is its all veggies and no meat/tuna and just some pellets (which she was going to eat anyways!)

probably dumb question but with the shell maintenance recipe it says 1 cup pureed veggie mix then the kale and carrots etc. does the veggies mix include those items or am i supposed to use a variety of other veggies blend into a cup then add to the mix of carrots , tomato , kale, calcium etc.? unclear on that dont wanna mess up this batch..if so and i do have to make a cup of veggies in addition to the recipe, what would you suggest the lettuce, mustard leaves and what not?

the puree mix. is all the veggies included in the recipe. :) i just threw all of my ingredients in the blender. it will all be pureed anyways. works fine. the cuttle bone i ground it up. and the pellets ground up too. and the can of tuna. with water. i used everything it said but its all going in the blender to be pureed.
hope that helps if you have any questions feel free to friend add me or send me a private message. this worked SO WELL for me with my turtles with shedding problems,
i even made my own recipe for getting lettuces in them that they refuse to even look at. good luck

I used a mix of the 2 recipes. I added to the "new and improved" cuttle bone and pellets and it worked like a charm. Im am so happy she's eating. just waiting to see some shell improvement. I used a clip to keep kale in the tank and she just mosies right on by it. haha! but i got something for her! jello shots full of veggies! hahahahahaha. s
hould i give it everyday?

i just made my batch.. gosh it made alot of those suckers..smell wow..unmentionable.. uhh so gross but i hope they like um cant wait for them to gell up..i used green leaf lettuce instead of kale. more of a staple so i can use it more.. but man grinding up that cuddle bone.. so not fun, it took forever..i think if its the shell maintenance its like every couple days.. atleast thats wat im gonna do, i read its not good to feed them the blueberries and sweet potato too much..thats why i used a whole head of lettuce.. tried to not use too much sweets.uhh cant wait for them to finish already.. i think im more excited them my turtles..lol

For the cuttlebone i just used an exacto knife and scraped it off into a powder into the mixer. Was really fast and just threw away the hard backing part of it.

grinding the cuttle bone itself was not too bad, just getting the backing off was a pain..

I think powder from cuttlebone is fine, but I really like the fact that your turtle can bite and trim their beaks on them. If you want to add some calcium into the jello shot, pick up some phosphorus-free powder like Rep-Cal Calcium.

Made my jello shots today!!
I used:

1 bunch of kale (purchased for 33 cents from my local farmer's market!)
some green leaf lettuce left over and forgotten in my fridge
2 super extra large carrots (purchased for 15 cents from the farmer's market and produced wayyyy more carrot shavings than a regular bag of baby carrots would have)
the skin off of 2 apples
1 ground up SUPER large cuttle bone (found for 65 cents! at my new favorite local pet store)
1/2 c blueberries
4 strawberries
2 regular sized vine tomatoes

I dissolved 2 beef bullion cubes in about 2 cups of water to aid in the purifying process. (then drained some of the excess liquid before adding gelatin and boiling water)

I used 4 packets of unflavored Knox.

I dont know if it's enough gelatin yet since they're in the fridge setting up right now. (kinda doubtful since I have seen no results so far)

So excited to feed to the turts...I just used jello shot cups since I couldnt find jello molds and its blizzardy and I didnt want to drive far to a store. Hoping it will be easy to cut the shots into 3rds or 4ths since they're a little large. Theyve never really enjoyed fresh kale...I threw in fresh veggies while cutting everything up and everything has been devoured besides the kale :/

I wish I had thought to "prune" my aquatic garden and add water plants....shucks
