Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi,

My female RES (8 inches) has successfully laid eggs for her second time, this time all in one go in a nest. However, I was wondering if it's possible she might still be carrying more eggs. Do RES typically lay all their eggs in one clutch, or is it possible she might need more time to lay eggs? I ask because she can't lay eggs in her normal basking spot (all stone) so I have to pen off the yard for her. I haven't checked out the nest all that well (don't want to disturb her) but it looks like around 10 eggs. Last time I estimated she laid 14 (some were broken by her afterwards, so hard to tell).

Thanks!

If she wasnt desturbed in anyway she should of laid all her eggs at once but if she was desturbed she could still have some left but that is pretty many eggs so id say she laid them all.

Thanks!

I recounted and it looks like she had 16, so that's probably all of them since she wasn't disturbed and she buried them all completely.

I was wondering, the eggs seem so big compared to her. Are they compressed when they're in the body?

Nope they are not, but it sure fills alot most of their body. i do imagine its compress oragans to be tight against places.

Wow, she must be tired! If you have a male turtle with her, she'll probably be gravid soon.

No male turtle with her. I guess she's just productive :) Is this a normal clutch for a turtle of her size (a little over 8 inches)?

It's a lot but within the normal ranges. I am a bit surprised at her being very productive, it must take a lot of energy to do this. Maybe you can add some additional calcium into her diet?
