Photo Gallery :: Pet Pix Contest[Bermuda]

Hey guys, I haven't been here in a while, as i've been busy doing school work and well, work work . Anyway, about two-three weeks ago, a Pet Pix Contest was announced here and I decided, what the heck? So I submitted a picture of Sora(my avatar picture to be exact) and I will know weither or not she has won next week friday.

The contest is split into catergories, they are;
>Best Dog
>Best Cat
>Best Pet(anything other than a cat or dog)

The animal(in their catergory) with the best picture of a "natural" pose wins a grand prize(Dog-1yr supply of food, Cat-1 yr supply of food and "Pet"-gets a $300 certificate from our local pet supply store, for their store).
In total, of all the submissions, Sora is #140 out of 246, but if you subtract all the cats and dogs, she's probably #5 out of 30(yes majority are cats and dogs).

Anyway, today I saw her in our online newspaper(to be printed tomorrow) and found there are only two other turtles in the competition!(not many people own fully grown turtles) I was excited to see her there, because now I know she's going to be in the news paper tomorrow and hopefully make other people recognize her as a "real" pet and not a nuisance as most people think turtles are(atleast here). Its been two long years, where people have said, "toss that thing back in the pond" or terms along those lines.

I don't even really care about the prize(all though I would really like it), so much as I do about her being in the paper and showing her off .

Anyway, without further ado, Sora and her competition:

DJ and Mystery-I believe the one on the left has Shell Rot? I don't know the person who owns them, but I hope he is taking care of that.

Nice pic! The other turtle doesn't look too good, and the one next to her looks like she might have had her tail bitten

@Steve-Thanks . Yeah, when I saw the picture, I was like; "There are other turtles??" And then I realized how sick they looked . Only two of my friends own RES in a tank, but people usually keep them as "indoor" pets w/out a tank when they get bigger(if they keep them at all) or sometimes in a Koi pond.

@Sflemin2- I do too thanks. I'm not sure if people outside the country can vote, but if so that would be really nice . Yeah, poor Dj (at least he/she looks active) .

I only have one friend with turtles and he has 3 adults in a 20 gallon . He means well.. his last one passed at 17 and he was crushed. I am giving him a 50 gallon tank as soon as I can get a truck out there. Its not big enough but its better than nothing.

I know what you mean, I had Sora in a 30Gal tank before I came to this site(although she was about 5" at the time, so it wasn't too bad. I'm glad she has fans , but unfortunately, I heard from a friend today that they aren't taking in anymore votes, as they are tallying the votes for next week Friday[Aug,5]. I'm not entirely sure if Sora will win(about 30 other pets are entered, excluding cats and dogs), but atleast she's in the newspaper .

The turtle on the left in the bottom picture has a seriously deformed shell and is very over weight. I've seen pictures online of something similar to that with other turtles and its almost always something to do with a purely protein diet. No way Sora will lose this one if thats her competition.

Well, unfortunately, I found out, Sora has not won . She lost to a Rabbit tackling a dog[they judged all the non-cat/dog pets together, so DJ and Mystery wasn't her only competition]. It's okay though, cause Sora was still in the newspaper, and now I see kids buying RES at our pet store[no small ones though], when before no one bought them, and they would be donated to the Aquarium[the man who runs the pet store doesn't believe in euthanization]. I would like to think Sora inspired them lol [ even though she probably didn't], so I don't feel too bad. Thanks for all your support/encouragement though .
