Feeding and Nutrition :: Turtle Jello Shots

Just a tip I've discovered the last few times I've made these.
I pour the jello into a long, flat plastic container. When it sets, I can cut it into cubes the desired size. I always found putting it in the ice cube trays made a mess.
On a side note, Frankie wasn't as keen on this batch as she has been on previous batches, but she still ate it. The cat liked it too

I just made this recipe using the "improved" version. A few things to note: I used organic canned pumpkin and a large can of tuna with the water. My turtle is a rescue and a recent acquisition--I've had him about a week. My blender is a very good one...I got a total puree--no chunks of any kind. I hope this is okay. The only thing he will eat for me is tuna--so I'm using this tuna-heavy version hoping to entice him to eat a better diet. I'll know tomorrow and update my findings.

^Something else you could try is saving that tuna water and soaking veggies/pellets in it. Sometimes that entices turtles to eat.

I tried that, but I just can't tell if he's eating the pellets and pooping or if the pellets are just dissolving and creating the mess. I've yet to see him eat anything but a chunk of tuna.

Darn, some turtles are just picky!

I dropped one into his tank this morning and so far no interest. He approached it and looked at it for several seconds and left it alone. It's been in the tank for about 15 minutes. I think he may cave in and eventually eat one. There was initial interest.

On another note...the rosy reds are either hiding or gone this morning. So there's some good news.

Update: He's eating the jello shots! One is gone and a second is mutiliated. Good news! ....and I found the minnows, they are quite alive and also appreciative of the jello leftovers.

That's great news.

My youngest turtle was a picky eater, and I made her these, and once she started eating them, she was willing to try other foods too (it was a slow process). Maybe you'll have the same luck.

They seem awesome and I am so excited to try them with my turtles. From everything I have read about feeding, it is crucial to offer a variety of foods to my turtles for nutritional value and because once they are stuck on one food, its hard to get them to eat anything else. Are these well-rounded enough to offer every day with the occasional treat (guppies, fruit, etc) or should they only be a part of the regular diet?

I would say these make it very easy to have a well rounded diet because you can put whatever you want in them to ensure they are well rounded. Even though this is one thing, it is a variety because it's made from many different things.
