This is my setup for my two larger turtles.

You can see Sajko's shell problems in this picture pretty clearly. Amazingly, this is actually quite an improvement from when I first adopted her and she had more fungus than I knew how to handle.

Lejzi was ready for her close up...

And this is Nacho. He has a tank to himself. Sometimes I wonder if he gets lonely because he had two tank mates before I adopted him... but then again his "friends" almost bit his nose off, so perhaps that made him a bit anti social.

Just a question in case any of you know, I wasn't the original owner of any of these turtles: can you estimate how old they are by their size?

Great pics! I like the one where shes balancing on the log all sideways! Where they all three in the same tank originally? Maybe you could get Nacho some fishy friends (that he may or may not eat) for Nacho :).

Do you know if they are all the same age? What are the measurements of the shells?

The larger two I got together and they've always been in the same tank (as far as I know.) The largest one is almost 9 inches, and the smaller one is 5 1/2.

Nacho I got separately from someone my friends knew who had him with two big YBS. He had to take him out because they attacked him (big surprise there  ). I don't think you can tell from those pictures, but his nose is crooked on his face from where they bit him, poor little guy. Nacho is 3 1/2 inches.

I just got them that log a few days ago and they're still discovering all the things they can do with it. Once they get bored with it I want to add some ghost shrimp, because it's hollow and they'd have a good hiding spot.

Well I have not had any male turtles but I have found that once my girls werent babies anymore, they were about a year per inch. So they are 10 years/10 inches now. Its not exact of course since they all grow different but theres at least an idea.

Poor Nacho! My Sylvie got her tail bitten off :(. They just have more character ;). If he is only 3.5 inches, he must not be very old. They do just fine by themselves so he will be ok alone :)

For a guess, I would say at least 5-6 years old...

Took some new ones today. I ordered a new heater for my larger tank and got some decoration to go along with it.
Image
While I was setting everything up, I let them crawl around outside the tank, and Sajko decided to carry my sock around the living room.
Image
I'm glad she didn't decide to do this when the sock was on my foot...

All of my turtles seem to be going through super sheds lately which is making me oh so happy. I have Sulfadiazine and I've been using it, but when they're retaining scutes it only does so much. Hopefully this will help abolish the fungus issue.

I LOVE the male rosy barb, he's so pretty. He's kind of a bully though.

The scutes around the edge of his shell are being the most problematic. My vet told me I could use a soft bristle toothbrush to try and loosen them but I don't think that's making a difference. Any suggestions?

The ones at the edges are usually the last ones to come off. Are the scutes lifting up yet?

Some of them on the top of his shell are, it's just a very slow process.

I glanced back over this thread and I can't believe how much better Nacho's shell has gotten over the past week and a half. My vet and I were both getting frustrated with his fungus condition, and decided to try something other than SSD cream. I was reluctant at first because I've never seen anyone on here post about conofite cream, but wow it made a difference for Nacho. It's still not 100% gone, but I'm hoping it will be soon.

Also, you can't really tell from these pictures, but once the fungus and retained scutes came off, there are two scutes on his shell that look thin I guess is the best way to describe it. Basically, the fungus kept new scutes from developing properly and killed off the ones on top prematurely, and the scutes I see now look lighter because the bone is directly beneath it, which could make him more vulnerable to infection, so antibiotic cream gets put on those at night when he's dry docked. So far though, there isn't any signs of infection.

I have not heard of conofite cream but am very interested now! As odd it may be, it's the most interesting thing I heard this month. So was the SSD not successful or you didn't try it?
