Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if you thought if my male turtle was too fat?

I feel like his shell is slightly pyramid-like, however he is three years old now and it's always been like this.

I feed him about once a day, enough for him to eat in about ten minutes or so, I usually don't give him many snacks and there are a few tetra fish in his tank that he snacks on every once in a while.

Any feedback would be great. I can post more pictures if needed.

Welcome to the site! I'll let the older turtle wizard members handle the pyramiding part, but an adult turtle should usually be fed every other day and the amount of pellets should only be about the size of his head: http://www.redearslider.com/pellets.html

It's also good to give them lettuce daily (leafy greens) and some other veggies/fruits on occasion: http://www.redearslider.com/plants.html . :>

Thanks! I've decided to cut back on his feeding, as I feed him once every morning. Today was my first day skipping his breakfast, I hope this helps. Also, I researched that a pink tint to their skin also means that they could be overweight, which Myrtle shows. I really think it will help.

Shedding would be good. You need to keep an eye on retained/overlapping scutes because water and debris can easily get trapped in there. That could allow for all sorts of nasty infections.
