As for generics on the meds, again it comes down to the active ingredients, so, if we can figure out what those are for the vet scribed meds then it would be easier to look for any off brands.

I think the water level in the tank is too high for the little one, that is why he basks so long per day. I would suggest a water level that the turtle can raise his head above it so breathe, without having to swim up to breathe. You can seem the level that I mean if you view August's gallery where my 3 turtles rested on a rock with their head above the water level (submitted by lowdee from HK).

Also, maybe you can try to give the little one some more food. I don't think you give him enough energy to swim up and down such water level.

I just feel that the carapace problem may due to excessive basking and not enough nutrition.

I had several turtles with fungus issues. I read somewhere on the site that sweet potatoes or yams help encourage shedding. It really helped with my turtles so you may want to try with yours. Also my turtles significantly improved when put outside and allowed to bask in the sun. This may be difficult for that small of a turtle though. My turtles are larger and in large outdoor stock tanks during the summer. I also bring them in at night so they totally dry off for about 12 hours a day. It may help if you allow yours to totally dry off as well. Hope this helps.

Just a quick update. I did finally get the cream, and I've been applying it for about two weeks. Submarine's mood has improved a lot, but his/her carapace is still pretty bad (although doesn't seem to be getting worse). I should also mention that it's prett soft/flexible, so I've been really gentle. I'll post an update once I see any real changes.

The water is fine in your tank. Sliders love to swim even as babies. Do you have a UVB light for Submarine? One that specifies UVB. Also, natural sunlight is great if you can take him outside supervised.

The cream should work very quickly. Are you using it daily? Dry docking?

Yes, the tank had a UVB light.
Yes, I was using the cream daily.
