Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

Picture number one is of the ZooMed Turtle Dock.. after my turtle tore it to shreds. He had it for about a year, and then suddenly started ripping away at it. Throughout the day while I was at work he got pretty far into it, I am not sure if he was swallowing it or not but he seemed fine, and its been over a week with no issues.
Because this product is made of styrofoam, I was extremely worried. Big warning for this product!

Second picture is of my RES after I put in a new Turtle Pier for him. Five minutes after I put it in he started biting at it, this one is made of hard plastic so its doubtful he will do any damage! Lets hope this works out for the time being..

Just pay attention and see what comes out the other side of your turtle ;)

As for why the sudden change - its possible that the algae that grows on them attracted your turtles attention. My turtles will nibble at their under water rest rock to get at the algae all the time, and will stop when I scrub it.

Keep an eye on any biting... my male RES would bite his dock (it was made of a hard resin) and actually bit pieces off of it. Even chipped his beak from doing so

My turtle has never "eaten" his ZooMed dock (knock on wood). Maybe because he's still on the small side (4 inches, I think).

I bought a ZooMed dock and can't use it. If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll ship it to you. I put it back in the box after trying to use it for a couple weeks. Krush  and I tried to make it work but we decided it just wasn't gonna happen.

My turtles did the same thing, I noticed they did it when I wouldn't feed them right away in the morning. They are both fine, they bit at it but don't eat it. It just gets all stuck in my filter. I've since changed my dock too. What kind is that in the first pic?

Yeah this product is decent for little turtles and a cool piece to use for making your own but as a permanent dock for an adult turtle, I think there are way better options to go with.

I have that dock, and it was too small for my turtles to sit on. They would climb on and either be half on/ half in the water or get dunked like that carnival game. I fixed that by attaching an old flip flop(minus the rubber strap) to the side using two copper wires shoved in and glued. The flip flop actually floats better than the dock itself. They've been using it fine for many months now.

If they are biting the dock, take it out and spray it with the water hose to clean off all the gunk that builds up.

My dock works great. For both the 6 inch slider I had and the three 1 inch sliders I have now.

Only issue I have is keeping it clean due to alge.
