Recently, my two year old yellow-belly slider male has been acting off. I am a cautious mom and always worried that any change in behavior could be illness, so I might be paranoid. However, what would cause a turtle that has slept in the water since day one to sit on his basking dock during lights out time? It seems when the basking light is on, he refuses to be near it. When it is off, he is all for his turtle dock. There has been an increase in traffic around the house as it is holidays, and he might just be finicky because of the people.
Has this happened to someone? Is this just a hormonal time for him? Or should I be worried that something isn't right?
Second question: My turtle's shell looks like its been scuffed? I have a floating basking log in his tank, as he isn't too comfortable with completely being on land. It looks like it is rubbing of some of the coloring on his shell when he knocks against it. It isn't shell rot, his shell looks fine out of water, but in water there are little scuff-like marks. Is this common?
