This is our little starter 10 gallon setup for Mikey and Leo (yes, ninja turtles, how original  hehehe)

The lighting outside the picture is two clamp lamps; a 60w incandescent in a reflective aluminum dome, and a 26w 5.0 Repti-glo in a white interior. They're clamped to the metal grid behind the tank. It's a piece of an old shelf, one of those that comes with square pieces and plastic corner joints so you can build them however you want. Well the plastic bits all broke and we were about to chuck out the metal grids when I figured I could use one to clamp both lamps to. Not very pretty, but it works quite well.
I really need to get a better filter though, a quieter one.. our kitten has recently become quite intrigued by the way this one noisily splashes, and I've caught her trying to get her sneaky paws under the lid more than once

This is the first time we've had turtles, so any improvement suggestions from anyone more experienced? My first thought is a floating basking area so I can add a lot more water, and it would be warmer closer to the light (it gets up to about 85 right now). Also, I'd like to try a live plant or two, they love climbing all over the fake ones so it'd be nice to have one they can nibble on. Anything else?

The filter will be quieter once you raise the water levels a bit. Looks like you've got a lot of the basics nailed down, so I think you can be really creative once you upgrade.
