Here are some pics of my special turtle TAMMY! or as we call her, Tammo Whammo, the Tamminator..etc.. she doesn't like to be handled, but loves to eat!! Is the brown discolouration normal? What about the white dots?

Can you post a clearer pic of the first angle? I'd want a clearer look at that spot between the seams and that discolored area.

Did that turtle come from the wild or just bought recently? Either way it most likely was wild. It has slight iron oxcide staining pretty much only seen in wild turtles living areas with high sediment erosion causing leaching of alot minerals into the water. Especially seen around farm lands. Pretty much looks to me like the white spots areas are small area of shell rot. You should clean at those white area aggressively with a soft tooth brush. Sulfar dip it afterwords if you have it or apply an antibacterial cream like neosporin on the spots.

I've had her for a few months, got her at Petsmart locally. I tried to scrub off the brown stains, she didn't like it, bit the toothbrush. Should I dry dock after neosporin? I'll try the dip as well.

I will! My GF has been taking tons of pictures of the turts. We have a lot of pictures of Tammy and Itchy, but few of Scratchy.. Scratchy is coming along tho!!

The stains will not come off, some but usually very hard to get off. Only with a shed will the stains go away. Id only dry dock an hour or two. The spots are very minnor and shouldnt require a long dry dock.

If that spot in the seam is soft, then I would recommend a betadine scrub and dry docking. It's possible there are other things going on, but that's all I can tell from the pic.

I will take a better photo, but start some treatment this weekend. She's not gonna be happy! I was thinking too, about the iron oxide. The pipes in my home are rusty, could this be the source of the iron oxide? Hmmm...

Scrubs - if she's biting the toothbrush you may want to grab her from behind. She won't like it, but...Here's how I do it: put her in a betadine, wait a few minutes while she gets over being ticked off (and let the gunk soften), "C" clamp her (gently) from behind - like your first picture only opposite (fingers support the bottom, thumb on top) hold just tight enough to keep her in place - you don't even need to take her out of the water all the way; just lift her enough to get your hand under there and keep her head above water - scrub, scrub scrub one section - Dip to rinse what you just scrubbed off....up, scrub, scrub, scrub another section...dip, scrub, scrub etc. If you need to scrub her plastron hold her upright like in your third picture and scrub, scrub...just don't turn her upside down - that causes the organs to put pressure on her lungs - Good Luck!!

No, the concentration of the mineral has to be very high. That wouldnt do it. Was he brown when you got him or just start turning like that? If it just started happening that is something different then.

I'm picking up the betadine this week, got some neosporin. She's her usual cranky self. What I am worried about is the docking situation. Scratchy uses the dock a lot, and sometimes I think there isn't a lot of room for the Tamminator. I have two docks, but you know they try to use one of them only. I have two of the medium magnetic docks. Any suggestions there?

Got the generic betadine. She tolerated it, but hated the neosporin. (Go figure...) Pics of the tank to follow..
