Heidi, my RES is the only one in the tank, and he does the paw fluttering as well. He's a bit over 3 years old now, but has been doing this since he was quite young. He has a few favorite "girlfriends" (rocks) that he will sometimes spend lenghy amounts of time lavishing affection on. (If they're not girlfriends, there intruders, but I have a feeling they're the former. ;) I wouldn't worry about the behavior, it's pretty standard.

but what about heidi's initail question. the turtle is in the tank all alone and still does the vibrating paws dance thinky, why does this happen if shes the only one in the tank?

are you talking about Wardleys turtle tank neutralizer? i use those all the time, the turts love eating them. are they not as good as the bird cuttle bone or just not good?

nburger - the post above yours should explain it.

tutlehaven - I don't think it's a good idea for turts to eat those (reminds me of the Dr. Turtle sulfa block that I recommend people not to use).
