You didn't give the option, 2 - 3, so I voted 1 - 2. I can't speak for our Yellow Bellied Slider because she was already 4 inches when we got her, but our hatchling RES started shedding when they were about 2 inches long. However, it appeared they had retained a set or two of scutes before their first shed. The 2 RES are both male (based on their behaviour towards each other) and are about 11 - 12 months old.

Just beginning 1st shed, but being told had some retained scutes. Too soon to know sex, @ 9 months.
