So the thing is that we had bought him from Petsmart in Madison, WI. Since he was under the 15 day warranty period, we took him back to them and they said that they will show him to their on-site vet and let me know whats wrong with him. I just got a call back from them saying that their vet said that its a fungal infection and they will take care of him for a about a week with iodine treatment and send him back to me once he is doing better. I have a few more days left. Lets hope he is doing better soon. :)

So Almost 4 months later we got our turtle back.. The vet had him for this long because they couldn't figure out a quick way of making his so called "shell rot" go away. He seems to be doing better now, but he still has scars from the rot on his shell which the vet believes will remain for ever now. But thats ok.. we have him back and that's whats most important. He is clearly more active and less scared of us now.

We are happy :)

Thanks to all you guys for the advice.. We were persistent and we got him back.. :)

Always glad to hear about happy endings! At least the pet store lived up to their promise. I think the pet stores tend to overfeed their turtles so they don't have to wait 3+ years for them to get to 4" (which is the legal size at which they can be sold.)
