The turtle is 4 years old, his name is Jaubo. He actually "belongs" to my 8 year old step son. But since I have been the one taking care of Jaubo solely for the last year and a half, I am the only one that he comes to freely. Jaubo hears my voice and goes wild trying to get my attention.

He demands to be fed EVERYDAY usually in the AM. But lately he has started doing this begging thingy. In the evening when everything settles down in the house he slaps his front legs against the top of the water until you feed him something. But over the last week I have gotten afraid of over feeding him. So, when he doe his begging thing, I tell him to settle down and he does.

Have you EVER heard of a turtle that begs? :?

Lots of people have turtles who beg. I personally think this is one the biggest reasons people overfeed as well. Have you tried giving your turt veggies? The veggies he can eat bunches of, so when he begs you can still give him food!

Turtles are professional beggars. You just have to resist the urge to give in to their begging.

My turtles beg constantly. I actually don't see them sunning much because they swim towards me everytime i come in the room.

Very nice to know that this behavior is not out of the ordinary. I think it is funny when I tell him to settle down he does actually do it, better than my kid does

You can cover the sides of your tank when you feel the lack of will power :)

I like to think that my turtle is just coming to say hi to me.
