So I keep about five guppies in Franklin's tank and lately when I've put the fish food in the tan for them, Franklin ha been eating about half of it. Is it going to hurt him? Thanks in advance.

My son's turtle has been with fish for 6 months. He eats some of their food and is fine.

I do try to grind the flakes with my finger so it's small and he can't get as much.

Should be OK for the guppies to eat/nibble on the turtle food too.

Flippy prefers the fish food to the actual fish, which is okay with me. I bought seven minnows for her tank, but then I felt horribly guilty about just putting them in there to die. So, I went to Walmart and bought a little fishy castle and some fake plants, since the real ones are still pretty little. Then I bought five goldfish of varying sizes, a fantail, and a koi, knowing that she's too small to eat the koi. It's almost the same size as her, and each time she starts to close in, he whacks her with his fins. I was hoping that with more of them in there, they would school and have a slightly bigger chance of survival. Also, I knew if there were more of them, I wouldn't really notice if she ate one. However, I keep obsessively counting them to see if she's eaten any - I'm actually calling it Flippygate 2013, because I'm a nerd. This morning, after three days with them, it would appear she finally caught one and ate it. There's one less goldfish than there was, although I don't remember what it looked like - the distinctively marked ones, I've named. There is no trace whatsoever of it in her tank, so I'm fine with that. I'd rather it vanish entirely than see little fins floating. I find myself cheering on the fish when she chases them, though. I think I'm much too much of a bleeding heart for her sometimes - I want her to be wonderfully happy, but the vigor with which she kills things is sort of heart-wrenching. That's my ramble. :-P

Haha, I am the same way. Every time Franklin closes in on a fish, I find myself interfering. It's ridiculous.

You'll will get use to it. I have had fish in my Toku's tank since 2010 and none of the orginal fish are left except a minnow that survived, I have no clue how, and two chinese algea eaters that are super fast and good at hiding too! But the guppies just reproduce like crazy so I haven't had to buy fish in a long time and it seems I won't need to for a long long time. The guppie population is self sustained now. But hiding places to escape to are essential.

Ok so tonight when I fed the guppies, they actually got no food whatsoever. I know you guys have said a little fish food won't hurt, but what about a lot? He went to town on that stuff!

It shouldn't bother him. Try to grind the fish food flakes with your fingers and make them small so he can't get much. Plus the guppies will get more with their small mouths.

I don't feed the minnows in the turtle tank. They manage to grow and breed anyway.
