Thanks! He did get up there by himself, he is not easily spooked like our res, so I can get closer with the camera. What do you think Steve, could one enter a pic of a snapper in a res photo contest?

Well the rules say this about the contents of the photos.. :)

Materials
Photographs can be of any type of turtle or tortoise. Photos of unique enclosures or environments are welcome. Hand-drawn or painted artwork may be considered. Submitted photos must not be copyrighted, and you must have permission to use that photo. The photo must not be commercially available (stock photography) or taken from a personal or professional website (or other sources). A limit of 3 photos per person may be submitted for judging. Photos should be clear and may be digitally enhanced. A size of 640x480 pixels is recommended. We may request larger pictures at a later time. Do not include text with photos. Time stamps may be acceptable as long as it does not diminish the quality of the photo. It is advisable to limit people or other distractions in the photos.

That is one cute turtle! I may be alone in this, but I love snappers. We had one at the pet store where I used to work, and he was very mellow. He was in with the RES and mud turtles.

Snappers tend to like a sandier bottom area, or so I've read, cause they hunker down almost like a soft-shell. But in captivity here's no reason he couldn't be with your RES.

I agree with everyone upthread, he looks SO CUTE on that log! How adorable. Where did you get this guy?

I wn a florida snapper and he likes to swim bbut he desn't hunt when he swims he hunts by basically sneeking up on the fish and yes he likes a sandy bottom and burrows down everything except the head. In my enclsures I keep my res ybs and penn cooter seperate from my snapper because the snapper swims for exercise and likes to relax by sitting on the bottom with his head poked out of the water.

I'd keep the snapper separate from the others as well. They do prefer somewhat different habitats---they're bottom walkers. Probably not a problem when they're small, but I've read that other turtles are part of their natural diet in the wild (why tempt them by keeping them in the same tank as other turtles?).

that is a common snapper, not an alligator. I raised 4 snappers (about that size) i found on a road for about 8 months. They are cute, but after the first couple of months, they will definately try to bite you! I would agree to keep him separate from the others, because they are very competitive when it comes to food.

The RES looks angrier than the snapper.

Here is a up to date pic of our snapper. He has became very agressive toward our male res so we have now separeted him pemantelty in his own tank. I put him here just for the pic. I thought I'd post here instead of a new post :?
