its ok! lol, we just don't like that site. Just because we dispise it, doesnt mean you have to be sorry about getting your turtle from there. lol.

I didn.t know that this website was so cruel. I bought my turtle there and he arrived today. I posted some pictures at the photo gallery. He has some white marks on his shell. also he won't swim much, he keeps basking for hours. Another thing he has problems swimming. I'm glad I saved him!!!!

wow! That is abusive... I can't believe that someone would refridgerate an animal... especially an animal that needs a heat lamp! I obviously don't know what the site is because it is blocked. Ellman, has anyone ever tried reporting this to have them shut down or their practices changed?

I bought my baby RES at a flea market at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. The guy gave me the "death" lagoon as others have called it.

hello! ok, so i recently got this baby res at the mall. the guy was being shut down for i guess legal reasons, and was really trying to get rid of the turtles before he had to shut down. they looked very sad and small and so i got one for 4 dollars. I have him in a 5 gallon tank right now but after reading up more on them i don't know if i can take really good care of him as he grows older and bigger. He is tiny, a little bigger than a quarter. i have 3 cats, so i can't keep him in an open container, and i'm a type 1 diabetic so my immune system is a bit weakened and i shouldn't have something with salmonella running around. But i realize he is my responsibility and i will take care of him, i'll just need lots of advice! however, if you are in the west texas area and would like a baby res, i will personally drive him to you. he's very cute, and his name is leonardo. i like him a lot but i don't know much about good turtle care. feel free to email me directly at coolwhipnjello@hotmail.com with ideas or advice! make no mistake i'm not selling him, just looking for someone a little more knowledgeable and prepared to keep him safe and healthy. have a wonderful day!

I asked my vet today (just about 2 hours ago) about RES and salmonella. She said that the chances of getting salmonella from a RES are VERY slim. She said that everyone freaked out about 30 years ago becasue a few kids played with turtles, put their fingers in their mouths and got salmonella. She said that I wouldn't get it as long as I don't eat with them or lick their shells... ha! She said that is one of those things that got way out of hand as far as overstating and rumors.

This is true, Keep your turtles healthy wiith a good habitat and diet (the salmonella bacteria is much more apt to be shed from the intestine when they're ill or stressed) and wash your hands well after handling them or their things, and you should have no problems. :)
