So my RES started basking around 5pm, the light is on a timer (12hrs) and turns off at 7pm. Well by the time i went to sleep around 11pm she was still up there. When I woke up around 7am she was still in the same position, that's almost 15hrs! I have never seen that before. Is that normal??? please help!!

It happens sometimes, are you monitoring the water and air temperatures? Was she awake?

AlexisisAwesome- No, she is very comfortable with me around. I will be doing a full on workout routine next to her and she could care less. She'll turn around a few times, change positions, flap her legs etc. but In the morning when I realized she was still up there and saw her looking pretty dry I put my head over her talking to her (like she understood me) but after like ten seconds she finally jumped back in the water.
Steve- yes I have a submersed water heater at 75 deg. Air temp I guess not. She was awake when I went to bed and when I woke up she was awake. Very possible she slept up there. I know one time before that she was basking when I left the house and when I returned at like 1am I noticed she was asleep on the platform. I turned on the light which woke her then she jumped in. Other than that this is a first.

Sometimes they just do it.
Penelope did that for a couple days and I freaked out. Everything seemed fine, so I just kept watch. Now I am convinced she was up there simply because she felt like it.
So if everything looks fine and no signs of illness, then just give it a couple days before worrying.

My turtle does this too, and she always blames me when I turn off the light.

I'm starting to get worried. Filburt will stay up there all day and night now. The longest I let her was two days straight. She won't even come down to eat, not even a treat. I have to place her in the water to eat if she even notices and she FLIPS THE [----] OUT!!! frantically swimming back and forth, running into the glass and will instantly climb back up the rocks. The water is at a steady 75 degrees. I clean it every two weeks, I use ph balance and de chlorine fluid. She also keeps what looks like scratching her neck over and over. Anybody please help me out here!!!

There must be something in the water. What brand are you using to dechlorine the water?

Honestly, not sure the basking temp. Planning on getting a new combo dome heat/uv. Right now just a uv which is obviously not enough heat output however, working on it. Tetrafauna brand de chlorine. Also noticed this morning her neck looked swollen. she finally spent some time in the water last night and this morning without freaking out but she was still "scratching" at her neck area while in the water.

steve wrote:Thanks for filling that out.... chlorine/chloramines can irritate skin and eyes. Aside from an irritation, I would also guess an injury might cause your slider to scratch his neck. Low water levels would lead to a higher instance of injuries.

Steve - Yeah, I use de chlorine liquid every time I clean the tank or anytime water is replaced. I use Tetrafauna brand. The water level is not shallow at all. However she does like to just "jump" off rather than go back down the way she came up so possibility she hit some of the river rocks that are at the bottom.

I wouldn't use a de-chlorinator or water conditioner... try to use activated carbon. I don't think it's the water... when she is in the water, does she eat?

I ended up taking Filburt to the vet. Better safe than sorry, turns out she has an infection. She is now on antibiotics which I have to administer by shots. Vet found a pink spot in between her back legs. Can you explain more about activated carbon?
