Well, one of the golden mystery snails we bought around Christmas has deposited eggs on the glass of our tank. They are right above the water level. We noticed it going up to the top of the tank during the middle of the day yesterday which we thought was strange at the time because the snails usually only move around a lot a night. This morning we noticed the deposit of eggs near the same spot we saw the snail.

It's interesting to see what happens next. Does anyone know how long it will take for the eggs to hatch?

If I remember correctly, my last bunch hatched in a week or so. I could be wrong because generally my memory stinks.

Here this should help

It's important to keep the eggs in a moist, but not wet environment. Never keep these eggs under water (this will drown the embryos)! Keep the temperature between 18 and 28°C (65-82°F). The higher the temperature, the faster the snails will hatch.

After 2-4 weeks (depending on the species and the temperature, 14 days at 25°C in the case of Pomacea canaliculata) the first little snails should appear. If they don't after 3 weeks, you can try to help the young snails. It might seem rude, but it works: just break the clutch in 2 - 3 parts and those in the water. You can even wash the snail out of the clutch by moving the broken clutch parts trough the water. Note that this isn't necessairly when the moisture of the air is sufficient.
If you don't see little snails after breaking a 4 weeks old clutch, it can be that the eggs aren't fertilised or that the air moisture was too low. In the latter case the yolk is very thick or the eggs are completely dried out and filled with air. You might want to wait until the snails appear on the natural way (it can take several days before they all are hatched), but keep in mind that if the clutch isn't kept moist enough, the young snails won't be able to make their way out and subsequently die.

I got that from http://www.applesnail.net/ go there and look under the care section as your mystery snails are really apple snails.

The care sections has everything about the eggs and the little baby snails. Hopefully you'll get some cool colors!

Thanks so much! They are above the water, do you think I should spritz them with a little spray of water occasionally to keep them moist. Right now they seem very dry. I hope they hatch just because it would be a first for us. We've had tons of guppies and other fish in the past but not snails. This is cool!

Koopa keeps swimming up to the spot under the eggs and stretching his neck out to look at them. He's probably wondering what they are doing there. He hasn't snapped at them or anything, just looks curious!

I would spritz them, it said moist place so maybe just spritz them in the morning and then at night, one spritz out to do it. That way they can stay a little wet and feel better.

The eggs never hatched. We gave them about 4 weeks and discovered that they were very dried out and had a very clear bite mark from a turtles mouth at the bottom of the clutch of eggs (sure don't know who could have done that ;))

When we cleaned the tank we removed what was left of them. Since then the snails have done it two more times, both times the eggs were dry. I'm not sure how to keep them moist since the snails are coming out of water to lay their eggs.

Koopa is now 3.25 inches and the snails are maybe golf ball size snails (2 of them). He's never picked on them or the pleco that is in his tank... yet! :)

I did mist them for the first two weeks daily. But upon feeling them they were already dry even at that point with the misting. I left them up on the tank for the extra time on the off chance that they might still be viable.
