General Care Discussion :: What do you think of this?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Just a memory:

I remember I used to watch this one turtle my high school biology teacher had in the classroom. I think the tank was just 10 gallons but the turtle was at least 6 inches probably. It was a Pleurodira turtle (not a Cryptodira like the RES) is all I know... the water would evaporate to just a few inches and it would just kind of stick its neck real high up and look around and try to climb up the side. It was so sad. He had a bunch of of animals/reptiles that he didn't treat too well. I think the frogs dried out and his pigeons had a pile of **** that looked like a mountain. He treated his snakes better. Oh well. Just sort of a sad memory that came back to me after I got my two little turtles the other day. I wonder what happened to that turtle? I know people would call him to come get snakes out of his yard. I imagine that's where the poor turtle came from (I can't picture him buying it somewhere).

It's sad to say that a bunch of people who should know more about the care of animals don't do anything to follow general principle. There a biology teacher at our middle school that has a few mississippi maps and I have come close a few times to passing on a care sheet to her. I really should, I guess I don't have any right to complain until I at least attempt to do something to bring her up to knowledge.

That's really sad! My high school bio teacher had turtles too. He took pretty good care of them. Still he ended up giveing it to someone cause it needed more attention than he could give it.

It's nice to know that people care and notice those things. I think you should pass the care sheet along. or just start up a conversation about it....hint at her a little bit and maybe she'll get it! =)

Umm... yeah. This guy was from my sophomore year of high school... and I'm a Junior in college now. It's been quite awhile. Knowing him he probably released it back where he got it eventually. If it survived.
