General Care Discussion :: tempeature

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

ahhh, the dreaded death bowl. If you leave your turtle in that, you will kill it. And I mean that quite literally. Rule of thumb...10 gallons per inch of shell. That bowl doesn't hold more than a gallon. There is no room for a heater, no room for a filter, what about basking lights?

Petstore people are notorious for not knowing anything about the proper care of these turtles. If you really care about your turtle, you will start to take the advice of some of the people on this site. There is such a wealth of information here and it constantly being updated to be the most accurate. If you actually do some reading in the forum and the main site, you will see that the set up that you have is not adequate. Your turtle may seem fine now, but in the long run it won't be a pretty picture. Soon enough your turtle is going to stop eating, and will probably develope some pretty serious shell problems. I honestly don't think that that is what you want. But you aren't taking the advice of the people on this site and I don't know how else to get through to you. Do you need someone to stop by your house and set it all up for you?

I'm not trying to be mean...I'm just passionate about the care of turtles. You can either take the advice given, or you can leave and let them die. But if you aren't going to follow our advice, then please don't keep asking for it. I can't bear to hear you tell us that your turtle has died, because right now there is no reason why it should...other than you aren't caring for it.

Shellie, no one here is being mean. They are being honest and offering advice to help you create a better living situation for your turtle. If you read the information here and on other turtle sites, you will find similar information. Good luck.
