I'm having trouble naming my elongated tortoise. She's a female, about 3.5 years old. I've had her just under a year. She loves basking and hiding (interesting combo:P) and like lettuce, berries, etc. Thanks!

I've usually waited until something stood out in a turtle's behavior, personality or appearance before giving the turtle a name. In all the time you've had her there's nothing about her that would suggest a name?

Ok, this will probably sound very childish, but... what about "Peek-a-boo". Simply because of your reference that she liked to bask and hide. Silly, I know but it was the first thought that popped into my head when I read your post.

BTW, can you tell I've got kids? They're rubbing off on me with all their silly names they call everything around here. We've had a family of ducks start making our back yard a pit stop and they've even named them (Bill, Freckles, and Mallory)

Well, I don't know if this will help but here are some names I came up with in the past for my "kids":

4" male painted turtle (Toby, just because I liked the name for a boy)

3" female painted turtle (Binky, just because she was so small & binky sounded cute)

11" female RES ("Sheba", but actually named after "Queen Sheba." Right from the start, Sheba always seemed like a regal gal to me so I thought some kind of royal name would be sweet for her. Plus, she was very large & seemed to "RULE" the tank).

4" male RES ("Nelson" used to live with Sheba when she was a lot smaller. Since he was 1/2 her size, I named him "1/2 Nelson", and eventually the name changed to just "Nelson."

2 1/2" Aquatic Clawed male Frog: "Prog", after one of my friends accidentally said "Prog" one day and we all thought it was funny so the name stuck.

Red Betta fish: "Aji" (pronounced AH-jee), after the Japanese word for "fish."
Kristin's Pond! Starring:

RES = "Sheba", 21+ yrs. old
African Clawed Frog = "Prog", 10 yrs old
& "Kristin" as Momma
