Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok, so at the end of June i am going out of town for 5 days so i can't leave my little guys home alone. My thought is to get one of those Rubbermaid tubs and bring it to my parents and set everything up over there with the filter and lights and stuff and then just have them feed them each day.

My big question is, they have been in the glass tank since i got them (about 2 months), is it mean to stick them in a solid tub they can't look out? should i try to aquire a glass tank or is the tub fine?

I have a couple of suggestions. First, is there any way you could have someone stop by once a day to feed them? You could get a timer for your lights so that they will come on automatically. Then the turtles wouldn't be as traumatized by moving them. Even if they had to skip a day or so for some reason it wouldn't be that big of a deal. That's what I always do when I go out of town with my turtle.

If that is impossible to do, you could get them accustomed to being in a rubbermaid container by putting them in it a few times before they go to your relatives home.

i already have the lights on the timer and stuff, i just don't know anyone i trust enough to come over and feed them. I will do what you said and just slowly get them use to the container. If they were older i would just leave them home and get one of those AutoFeeders.

Thanks

How big is your tank and how big in the rubbermaid? If they hold nearly the same amount of water, they should be fine. I think it's more important to put the temporary setup in the right spot - a nice quiet and private area.

i haven't purchased the rubermaid tub yet, but will get the same size as i have. Currently they are in a 10 gallon tank, but since they are small they enjoy it, i will also take my filter from my tank and put in in the tub

Since it's only 10 gallons, I would probably use that or a much larger rubbermaid. I dont think that since they are small, they enjoy it.

ok cool, thank. they have always seemed happy to me. they always swim around and bask and do there thing.

I got the 55 gallon tank from my buddy but he had been using it for a lizzard for a few years and when i was filling it up it started to leak from the bottom seal pretty bad. I looked up how to fix it and i think it is going to be more work then it is worth so i'm trying to find someone to give it to. within a month or 2 i will be getting a new tank though, i went to some fish places and this lady at 1 can get me a 60 gallon tank that has nice dimensions for $85.
