Last Sunday I went to church with my aunt, and in the middle of the service I went outside to get some fresh air and space. From what I remember, there's always been a pond in front of the church. Surprisingly, there were turtles in the pond (all these years I've seen nothing but fish and geese) and I think the turtles were released into this pond in the first place. But the conditions were bad, the water was infested with algae, and since south Florida is in a bad drought, the water was really shallow in places. Worst of all the place was infested with kids. Not that the creatures were being suffocated, it was that some of the kids got really evil with the turtles and started throwing rocks at the ones coming up for air :( . I actually had to discourage one kid from killing a poor thing in shallow water at point blank. Then I had to scare the thing into deeper water in order to protect it from another kid. I had to leave early so I don't know what happened from then on. I hope nothing was killed :( :( .

I just don't know how to take it up with the place. I just felt powerless that day.

Is the pond on the church property or just nearby the church?

If it's on church property, first, I'd take it up with your aunt if this is where she attends church regularly. Maybe she could say something for you to those in charge. That would be a step in the right direction. Remember that a lot of times people just don't have any clue how to care for these wonderful creatures because they haven't been taught how. Take this as an opportunity to educate others. :)

I've heard about kids AND adults doing worse things to turtles. It's sad how careless, cruel and stupid some people are.

wow...I would be soooooooo mad.

I'd definetly take charge and get the pond in order..Of course...you'll have to ask for permission first :p

You could even put up a little gate around the pond, with a lock, to keep the kids out.

I don't know what it is that's wrong with kids today.
I'd never hurt an animal just for the sake of doing it...

Yeah I know sarah, I'm a 13 year old but I have noticed that kids nowadays are really messed up.

Just one thing, the pond ALREADY HAS A GATE :x . That's what ticked me off the most, that the kids climbed the fence just to stone the turtles  . I just don't believe the parents let this slide, there were a bunch of adults next to the kids and they didn't say a chipper. How is anything supposed to catch on with these type of people :x !!!
