Yeah, from their point of view it won't be right publishing something against themselves. It wouldn't look right, don't you think? I guess that falls under the "inappropriate letters" thing.

I don't know. It talks about how they like to invite discussion based upon their articles. Someone of a higher position should take the feedback into consideration when it comes to giving Christi Mathis a promotion. Didn't Dan Rather get fired for publishing false information. I realize that this isn't on the same level, but gosh.

I don't think it's appropriate or necessary to start bashing and insulting Ms. Mathis. Their paper should have fact-checkers to confirm this kind of information. Also, I'm not sure how large of a paper The Southern Illinoisan is, but they may not have the resources to do that. I'm certainly not defending the article, but there is a polite way to deal certain situations. We all make mistakes and they should have the opportunity to correct theirs.

I'm not just bashing her, but if my name was going to be on something I would sure be making sure it was right. The fact is that the pet store owner presented his information to her in probably what seemed like a factual way, leading her to believe that the information was correct. But aren't there usually two sides to every situation? She's probably just as clueless as the rest of us once were, but she chose to publish an article about it, and she and her staff should have taken the time to check their facts. If they have the resources to publish their paper online, then they could have some some simple spot checking with other online resources. The fact remains that it is her name on the article, even if it isn't her responsibility to do the double checking. Just my opinion though, and no one has to agree with that :)

I wasn't pointing anyone out and I'm real glad there are comments on their site correcting the "information" in the article. There is a great deal of ignorance in that article but I'm sure they would be more willing to respond positively to constructive criticism than to a swarm of negativity.

It does seem to appear that she was mislead by that dealer. I agree with your opinion about her responsibility, but then again I have little confidence in journalism :)

Well, Jen, it appears that we have been passed up for posting. The timestamps for submission seem to go in order and we're already to today's posts. So, I guess they didn't like us too much.

Have any of you read the recent comments? There's one saying that they will be notifying the authorities to all the illegal activity going on at the store. Sounds like his ploy to get some free advertising and publicity backfired, huh?

The Keifer guy still irritates me. It's obvious he is just trying to cover his rear. The comments between the first article and the second don't reflect his understanding about the law, it reflects his urge to still make money. Just post the blame to someone else. That's not to say that maybe the supplier didn't give him proper information, but he still should have done his own research. And to think that he thought he was selling all of those turtles for educational purposes. Yeah, right!

Yup, it's amazing what people try to get away with by claiming ignorance. At least he's been informed and will try to correct the mistakes - though I hope he stops selling them altogether.
