i've uploaded or created a link to a picture of my turtle but how do i make it small enough to fit nicely under my ID name? decrease the size of my picture??

Yeah you will have to make it smaller. If it is a photobucket there is a way on there to down size the picture.

Your avatar should be 80X80 according to the Posting rules and guides (top of page). So here's an example of what it should look like.... (hope you don't mind, I used yours as an example... just cropped and resized and then hosted on imageshack or some other suitable site.)



You can crop/resize and then upload it to a website (your own or another hosting site), then go to your profile and choose to link to an offsite avatar.

thanks, sonja. i didnt mind you cropping it and in fact, i saved it to my computer, uploaded to my website and linked to the forum here. thanks again!

i will be posting more pictures of my turtle sometime this weekend. and btw, before, i had a 10 gal. tank for my almost 4" turtle. i upgraded to a 20 gal. this week, w/ the heater, filter, docking station and basking lamp. i also have an algae fish, a few feeder fish, big rocks and fake plants inside the tank. (you'll see when i post the pictures). anyway, i'm excited for the turtle. he's living comfortably and i enjoy watching him, swimming all around. but after i had more fake leaves in there, he's always hiding. i kinda have to secretly watch him, esp. when he docks and basks. he looks so adorable though!

Just keep in mind that you are going to have to upgrade again real soon. The bigger you can go the better...saves more money in the long run! Also think about that when purchasing heaters and filters.

yes, i will keep in mind about upgrading the tank but i'll keep 20 gal. for now b/c of limited space and budget. (thanks)

question: might anyone know why there's a film of grease (something that looks like grease) on the surface of the water?? could it be from the filter or the mixing of having fish & turtle in the same tank?? i didnt put meat inside the tank, only veggie. i feed ninja turtle pellets in a separate tank. or does the turtle excretes some fatty crap after eating live feeder fish? (i saw him ate one yesterday.)

Do you use a water conditioner? And did you rinse your filter media really good? It could be either one of those. I have feeder fish and have never noticed a film on the water.

Another thing, let me know how the draped plants work. I have been tempted to do the same thing, but I am scared that I am providing a way for escape. I have a lid on my set up, but I am a little concerned about the strength that they might have. So let me know!

I think some of the film on the surface is caused by the surface of the water being still. I've read that having the filter above or pointed at the water surface to agitate it helps. Of course, this depends on the type of filter you have. I've never had this problem and I have a waterfall type filter that breaks the water surface.

no, i dont use any water conditioner. it's possibly my filter. i'm going to clean it good this weekend.

the draped plants? do you mean the ones in the back and w/ the hook? (correct me if i'm wrong.) ninja is probably too small and a bit dumb to learn to climb on that for now. he likes hiding under there. anyway, it works fine for now. but i'd keep the water not too high or too low, so that the drape plants couldnt provide escape.

actually, since you have a larger tank, maybe you could lower the water level a little bit or stick the plants lower on the tank wall. the drape plants will float to the height of the water level - higher the water level, higher the plants, easier escape. turtles are actually very strong. i've seen ninja pushing those big rocks around.

The film will disappear if you change the filter often & use an enzyme (probiotic) waste degrader in the water.

I have run into that "film" periodically after my turtle eats certain types of fish (like salmon). I think it is in their waste, but it doesn't last long.

point your filter intake upwards slightly and it will keep the water moving and the film shouldent apper again
