Image

Here is my new setup: 65 gallon tank, fluval 4+ filter, 200 watt heater (behind the rocks), basking area with proper lighting and several levels (they love the levels), fake plants (they love to hide in and sit on them), large pebbles on the bottom (I know there is some debate but they seem so big right now), and a few decorations to add some character and hiding areas. Inside the tank are my two turtles (Inout and Littleshell) who are now a few inches in size (I think they are about five months old but I have no idea as they were given to us by my mother-in-law at Easter who knew nothing about them). They LOVE the new space since she brought them to us in a 10 gallon tank.

I just saw that turtle decoration on the left in Petsmart yesterday. :) They can both easily fit on the top of the basking area together if they want to? Also, can those rocks shift/fall easily?

It looks nice, but a little dark. Or the water looks slightly green (maybe it's just the pic?). I have to say that that Fluval 4+ is inadequate for a 65-gallon tank (it filters something like 57 gallons/min and for turtles you basically want a filter that's rated for about 3X the size of the tank). I think you're going to find this out, especially with two turtles that are growing...

Yes, than can both fit and then some (probably the angle makes it look much smaller). The rocks are quite solid and cannot shift (and they seem to love the different levels and cracks and crevices they create). I think it is dark because the lights above were turned off for the picture. The water is not green so if it looks green it must be the lighting or camera. SInce I was only planning on filling it to the level it is at (maybe 2/3), it is really only at about 45 gallons or so and the woman at Big Al's told me that the fluval 4+ was just fine. I guess I will have to wait and see...

The first thing you should do is remove the gravel. They will eat it and if it becomes impacted they will probably die. If you need more encouragement on that then read this thread:

I don't see a UVB light... which should also be directed towards the basking area. The gravel/small rock really isn't a debate. There will be no chance of gravel impaction if there's no gravel in there :). I would also add a thermometer by the basking area. Your turts are hard to spot in that pic!

Fill up the water closer to the top! Give them more swimming room.

Nick, I think what you are looking at is the turtle decoration. One turtle is behind the rocks and the other is in the far right corner. I wondered for a moment too, because it was first thing I saw, lol.
