Algae killer that is safe for turtles. Anyone have any that they have used they would recommend? I had a good bit of algae growing quickly in my quarantine tank and I also have a loggerhead musk turtle with a good bit of algae on his shell, I am hesitant to scrub it all off with a brush as that might not feel too good.

Thanks in advance,

Luke

I remember George (OldTurtle72) recommended an algae remover, though I have heard people use algae removers with disastrous results. Have you tried wiping it off with a towel first and you can try a very soft toothbrush.

Try diluting some vinegar and wiping him down with that (or using a soft brush) and rinse him well afterward.

I took Oldturtle72's (George's) advice and have used Algaefix for a couple of years now in my outdoor stock tank. It is great as I put it in once a week and never have to deal with the algae issue any longer. Before that I was always scrubbing algae and could not get it all off. I haven't used it in a smaller aquarium or with smaller turtles though. Has anyone else? I would think it should be fine though as the amount to used is based on the gallons in the tank. It is for ponds so you can purchase it at pond stores or hardware stores. Hope this helps!
