Very nice set up! It looks so clean and fun for them! Great job!
A couple of years ago, my turtle cracked the glass on the thermometer like the one you have, nothing leaked out thank goodnes. I would recommend using a strip adhesive thermometer that you can attach to the outside of the tank, they're inexpensive. There's also digital ones you can attach to the outside. The mercury in those glass ones can poison the turtles if it breaks, and we all know how curious these little guys are, lol.

I thought thermometers that you attach to the outside of the tank were ureliable. I have seen the turts scratch the thermometer now and then, and my turts are really curious.

The plants to the left were actually spread throughout that half of the tank. The turts pushed those plants together like that along with the rocks, they are constantly foraging if not basking. That's why I have no permanent setup at the bottom, they just mess it up anyway.

You can try one of the adhesive ones, then hold the other thermometer in the water for about 30 seconds and see if you get the same reading. I use one and it's always been pretty accurate. Also, since you're using what looks like a Stealth heater, those are wonderful at keeping the correct temp for the water.
Yeah, my turtle likes to push his plants and rocks around too. I suppose it's entertaining for them, lol. It's also so much easier to clean with only a few plants and some bigger rocks. :)

Are there any digital thermometers that people recommend?

I have the stick on thermometers on the tank, which were there when I used to keep fish in the tank. It gives somewhat of an accurate reading but external temperatures could affect those readings.

I bought a cheap digital thermometer ($5) which I use to check the water temp. I don't leave it in the tank, though. I only use it to check the water temp when the outside temp changes. As long as the digital thermometer can give you readings from 60 to 100 degrees F, it shouldn't matter what brand it is.

I do the same as CountryGirl does, check the water temp with a digital if outside one changes. Just pick up any one you like that you can afford. I got mine for $6 I think.

I've got the same one Steve has and it works great. And it's cheap!
