Actually, this is something I have done in the past to keep my fingers from getting snapped! I learned the hard way.....Sheba has latched onto me before. Having an 11 inch turtle latch on to your finger/hand/arm is NOT fun so often times putting the food on the floor, letting her snap it, & then putting Sheba in the water where she can eat it....well, that works out great. Once she's done snapping, things are fine! Sometimes I put a treat (like a blueberry) on her dry dock for her to come get. She snaps it & drags it into the water where she eats it.
Sheba doesn't like to be picked up. So when I feed her, I take her out of the tank, put her on a towel to dry her off, then let her follow me into the kitchen, where I put her into a laundry pan with water in it. That's where I feed her. Sometimes for fun, I will take a small fish (like in the picture, hold it up to her nose & watch how she runs after me to get that fish! It's like leading a donkey with a carrot and it is so cute. Someday I will post a video when I get a chance.
