The problem that many people face when hibernating turtles is that they don't have all of the needed components. In the wild, turtles are able to bury themselves below layers of mud. Unless you want all of that mud in your tank, it won't be possible. There are many other factors as well, temps and safety etc. I don't know all of the details, just that it isn't something that is recommended.
