General Care Discussion :: New baby turtle.. ?!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Mon Nov 13, 2006 3:16 am   New baby turtle.. ?!

Well I got a new baby turtle , its around 1.6 inches long (I know it's small.. its.. r-e-a-l-l-y small) and its not eating.. I'm supposing this is normal as its getting used to the new environment.. but how long until it eats.. generally?

and is it suppose to be shy?

Congratulations on your turtle. Mine cant be much bigger then yours, and one of them will eat shrimp out of my hand, the other wont even eat infront of me.

It can take some time for them to adjust but in the wild they can go for a week or so with out eating, just be patient....

just a question, did ya name him/her/it yet...

It's normal that your new buddy won't eat. New turts take some time to adjust to their new environment.

There are other reasons that turtles won't eat, so make sure that you have a proper set up for your turt. It may even encourage getting settled in faster.

Thanks for the help :D and yea, I have the proper conditions for it, heater lighting etc.. I guess it's just a matter of time then :P

I havn't gotten the little guy (girl? I think its a guy though because the claws and.. tail and.. you know.. but it's not supposed to be evident until they're "mature")

a name yet :s Still looking for one. I was thinking along the lines of "trevor".. but that doesn't seem to be the best name there is out there :P

other considerations would be
"Huron" or "Iroquois" .. or "Quadra"
lol, but I'm pretty indecisive on that matter 8)

and again/..
thanks :D

Remeber the name you pick now, might change later, at least if the sex is different then you guessed.

missibu - what can i add to my setup to encrouage eating from the one that wont eat infront of me?? Or at least getting settled for him/her?

kelly?

hm

I was thinking of something original like pazzazz or something.. or name it after someone .. or something

kelly kinda makes me think of kelly clarkson and if you've ever seen that show uh.. I forget what it's called, but its about some kelly family.. ?!

but hey, Kelly can be put into consideration..

so far..
2 votes for "Pazzazz"
3 votes for "Joplin"
1 vote for "Axel"
3 votes for "Other"

other names put into consideration:
"Bob" <--that\s as unoriginal as it gets
"Box"
"Ernie"
"Bert"
"George"
"Koko"
"Maktor"
"Kelly"

:P I'm going to have such a hard time naming my kids if I ever have any :s lol

pick a language, and find out the world for turtle. That's what I did for Honu, it's hawaiian. Also, baby turtles still have a yolk sac they feed off of.
From the homegrowers soul, straight to his lungs. That's the method that I myself find fun. Start from seed and then you'll see, just how fun homegrowing can be.

My baby RES is still not mature enough to know exactly what sex s/he is yet- but we named him/her Leo and decided that if in the end HE is a SHE we're going to call her Lilo! (Brandon keeps saying Leona but I know he's gotta be kidding! haha) So maybe choose some names that are easily changable either way! Recently though I've been callling him/her my little unknown! :P
Jennifer and Brandon

1 RES- Leo(na) (1 y/o)
1 dog- Boomer (5 y/o)
1 cat- Joey (2 y/o)

weell.. It's been decided now...

he's officially ca;led Charles the 1st (yes.. just like the king)
because he's been crawling all over my socials homework on Anglicism most of the time..

Anglicism- prayer book- William Laud- Archibishop of canterbury- Charles the 1st

besides, he seems to have a special liking to silver and gold objects ..1
